Use & Care

WARNING: To avoid burn or injury, use extreme caution. The stone bowl and its contents can be very hot. Use protective mitts while handling a heated stone bowl. Keep away from children.

CAUTION: Sudden drastic temperature changes can cause cracks. Do not pour cold water while the bowl is hot. Do not place a hot bowl on a cold surface, or a cold bowl on a hot surface.

When using directly on stovetop or in the oven:

1. Place food or soup in the bowl.

2. Start with low heat.

3. After 2-3 minutes, adjust to desired heat level.

How to make the crunchy rice bottom for bibimbap:

1. Coat the bowl with vegetable oil.

2. Place cooked short grain rice in the bowl.

3. Cook on a stove on low heat until the crusty bottom is formed.

* To make the crunchy rice bottom, you must heat on a stove (gas or electric). Placing it in the oven will not give the same result. The bowl can be used in the oven for other purposes.

The bowl is dishwasher safe. However, for lasting appearance hand-washing is recommended. When hand-washing, use mild soap and soft scrub. You can also use baking soda or flour for natural cleaning. Dry completely in a shaded area before storing.

* Do not use cold water while the bowl is hot or pour hot water in a cold bowl. Sudden drastic temperature changes can cause cracks.

To remove food stuck on the bowl, fill up the bowl with hot water and let it sit for a few hours before washing.

To clean a burnt bowl,

1. Sprinkle baking soda all over the bottom of the bowl.

2. Pour white vinegar over it and leave overnight.

3. Add water and bring to boil. Let it simmer on low heat for a while, but make sure enough water remains. Set a timer so you don’t burn it again.

4. After the bowl cools, scrub vigorously with NON-ABRASIVE sponge and rinse thoroughly with water.

5. Repeat until burnt spots are removed.

More on Product

The Premium Korean Stone Bowl is a ceramic stoneware product made from fine clay. Stoneware, by definition, is a ceramic which is fired at about 1,100 °C (2,010 °F) to 1,300 °C (2,370 °F) and glazed.

Stone bowl is the common North American name for this type of bowl. It is a direct translation of Dolsot in Korean, most commonly associated with the popular Korean sizzling rice dish Dolsot Bibimbap.

Stone bowls are made to be porous in order to retain heat longer. However, lower quality ceramic stone bowls and stone bowls made of natural stone are permeable to water also. This means dish detergent or other materials can enter and remain in the pores, making these bowls unsanitary.

The Premium Korean Stone Bowl is much more sanitary as it has finer pores that minimize the water penetration. It is still breathable, however, because it is made with finer clay and glaze-fired twice using natural glaze. Also, the Premium Stone Bowl is far more durable and long-lasting compared to most common stone bowls.
